Celery Kid

Most kids like french fries.  And when they have the opportunity to eat them, they take it.  Most kids don't like vegetables.  And when they have the opportunity to eat them, they consider it to be a punishment.  Joshua is not most kids.  While he does like french fries well enough, he also loves vegetables.  Every few months we go to Chili's for a family outing, and the kids meals come with a side item.  There are many choices that most kids would go for, like the fries, mashed potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, oranges, pineapple, cinnamon apples, and even maybe rice.  But then there are a suprising amount of things you wouldn't expect to get chosen much like steamed broccoli, salad with low-fat ranch, corn kernels, and celery sticks with low-fat ranch.  Joshua gets the celery sticks with low-fat ranch every time.  Every. Time.  He's totally pumped about them every time we go there.  I'm both baffled and impressed.  It's a little hard to understand, because at best celery tastes like stringy, crunchy water, and at worst it's just gross.  But he likes it.  He doesn't even really use the dressing much.  He also really likes black olives too, so it's not just celery.  I'm really glad about this, because eating healthy foods is something we want our children to do, so I'm not complaining.  But I sure am surprised.
