Lots of Elliotts and Lots of Chickens

Tonight we went over to my friend Jeff's house.  He lives out in the country in a log cabin-style house on an acreage.  He and Josie have seven kids, so all the space comes in handy.  Our kids, especially Joshua, were really excited to get to play with their kids.  Joshua loves playing with older boys, and the Elliotts certainly have those.  But because they have plenty of land, they have plenty of animals.  Aside from two huge, but gentle, guard dogs, they have lots of chickens, which Joshua loved.  Here Wyatt lets him pet one.  Hannah was excited about the tiny kitties that Brody showed her, but she also liked to hang out with Ruthie.

They have a huge playset in their back yard, and Hannah reminisced about the olden days by swinging in the baby swing.

Joshua loved exploring in the back yard.  He was really excited to find a small frog.  But more than anything else, he was pumped about the chickens.  He got to hold one, which he thought was just about the greatest thing ever.  After he put it down, he begged Gunner to get him another one, and Gunner obliged, and Joshua was just as happy as he was the first time.  He also got a chance to chase a chicken that had escaped.  As Joshua bolts across the yard trying to capture the opportunistic bird, everything in the picture is blurry, except for the chicken's feathers, oddly.

Joshua wanted me to hold a chiken, which I was happy to do, as I don't think I've ever held one.  That wasn't exactly on my bucket list, but I'll take it.

                                                                            We are tough.

Jeff and Josie cooked dinner for us.  Before we ate, we gathered all the kids around the table.  Clockwise from left to right are Jonas, Ruthie, Clara, Joshua, Brody, Wyatt, Hannah, Gunner, and Wade.  Baby Rory was napping, so he didn't make the picture.

We had a great time, and the kids did too.  It's something I'd like to do more often as I'd love for our kids to know each other, and it was really fun for everyone.
