Last year's soccer experience for Joshua
wasn't the best. We're doing it again this spring, and I'm really hoping he enjoys it more. One change we made was to buy him cleats. Last year we just had him wear his tennis shoes (which he called
soccer ball shoes), but pretty much all the other kids on his team had cleats. We didn't want to spend a lot of money on shoes that he would wear for eight days, so that was fine. This year, though, we hope to do it in the spring and the fall, and also I found some Brava cleats at Academy Sports for $9. So that's totally worth it, and now he has cleats. Soccer starts on Saturday, so I wanted to break in his cleats, and also try to get him ready for how the games will be, since he was so disinterested in them last time. So today we practiced running from one end of the yard to the other, taking turns on who had the ball, and the other would try to take it back, Then that person would try to score in their goal (a designated section of fence). It went well, and he was really excited about it. We talked about how we can't use our hands, and a few other basic rules. He was pretty pumped about the whole thing and seems to be excited about the first practice/game this weekend, so hopefully that holds and he has a good time.
You did great Dad. Yesterday while kicking the ball around the back yard he was much more into it and made sure that I knew not to touch the ball with my hands!
